Weekly Photo Challenge: Good Morning!

Posta Week

I have been fortunate to be in many places when it was breakfast time. Here my wife and, I’m taking the pictures, I are having a cup of coffee sitting by our little fire place looking  out on Lake Sinclair ,GA. Enjoying the coolness of the morning and the scenery, while watching the boats go by.

We were at Medina Lake ,TX having breakfast in our motor home when we looked out the window and saw all these deer. WE went out – I took this picture and several more. My wife started walking closer and closer, they almost would eat out of her hand. There were many more then just the few I have in this picture.

Normally I have bacon and egg over easy. These haven’t been flipped over yet. I don’t normally take pictures of my food or drink. But I did have these two.

Can’t get by with out a cup of coffee or two in the morning.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgic

Post a Week, Post A Day                                                   2013/07/09

When I get nostalgic I would load my bike on the back of my car and drive down to Santa Monica Beach and park, take my bike off then ride down to Venice Beach. There is a nice bike/roller blade concrete trail down to Venice Beach, that goes to points further South and the same to the North of Santa Monica.. There was always something going on at Venice Beach and plenty to see.. It helps take my mind off what ever I’m fixated on. In other words gets me out of my head. Here are some photos that I’ve taken down a Venice Beach area. There are a lot of place to grab a bite to eat if your hungry.

This guy has been doing this for as long as I can remember. He has electric guitar with speakers, I believe they are battery operated. I’ve seen him in a couple of movies as an extra. It is an enjoyment to watch and listen to him. He just roller skates around the area playing his guitar.

I’ve only have seen this person a couple of times . I really don’t know that much about him but was worth taking his picture.

There is a clothing store and on the weekends there are male models out in front of the store.  They are like mimes but I think that is wrong word  these models stand in one place and don’t move. I guess they are more like a human dummies.

At the time I took this picture I believed that the baby in this picture was a doll. Now that I look at this picture again I’m not sure. Because I thought it was a doll is why I took this photo.

Weekly Photo Challenge” The World Through My Eyes

Post a Week/ Post a Day

This young man now has his own condo and is in the tech field. He knew more about computers than I did back in 2004.  When he was 9/10 years old he was fiddling with computers and programs. He’s all grown up now!

This shot was at a Blue Grass Festival and this young man was sitting right in front of me . This may not have been the right lighting but it was the right moment. You can never go back and duplicate this photo or any of the others that I’m posting. Some times one has to grab the picture regardless of the lighting. This is what is called a moment in time and it carries a lot of weight in the photo world.

This young lady is all grown up now.  She went to college in Santa Barbara, CA  and decided to stay there. I’m not sure if she is teaching there or not but I think that was her major.

This gentleman was at an apple festival and was nice of him to let me take a photo of him. His name is Smokey Joe.

I’m posting this picture because it is about lighting and composition, placement of subject and allowing the river to lead up to the subject. I saw a similar photo like this in a gallery in Sedona, AZ.

Weekly Photo Challenge:Urban

I never really got into street photography were we lived. I did a few trips to down town Los Angeles to photograph different parts of down town, unfortunately it was 35mm and their in a container sitting in storage. I can’t get my hands on them right now.

We haven’t lived there since May 1997. We been living in our motor homes and traveling around the country.

One city that we have spent a lot of time in is Las Vegas, being only 288 miles from home, why not! It was a lot of fun and always had a good time, never got bored and there never was shortage of good food.

Here is a few photos that I have taken of down town Las Vegas .It was renovated a few years ago to bring more customers to the down town area.

Several streets were closed off for the renovation.

Asparagus on the Grill

Years ago my wife and I were hosting a camp ground. A camper showed me this recipe.

Take off the tough bottom part of the asparagus. If you take a stalk and grab it near the bottom of the stalk then up towards the middle then just snap it. That is usually where they should be cut to get rid of the tough part. Some of the tough part maybe useable if you want to peel it until you get to the tender part or you can use those parts in a soup . I usually  buy two bunches for the two of us.

Two bunches of asparagus –rinse & let dry

Drizzle with EVOO

salt & pepper  to taste

garlic powder  sprinkle lightly

put on grill, griddle or fry pan lightly brown all over keep turning

Put them in bunches on foil put a couple of teaspoons of salsa on top and seal them tight

Place back on the grill for several minutes  -you just want to steam them with the salsa for a little while – I would say 4 to 5 minutes keep your flame down low.

You may have to make some adjustments

Hope you enjoy. We sure do.

I’m sorry folks this is how I learned how to fix them.

Easter Ham

Just before Easter, precooked hams where on sale. Of course we bought one and  cooked it for Easter and had five of our friends over to share it with us.  The ham turned out very good. This is how we cooked it:.

Bring it to room temperature

Cut off excess fat and scored it

Preheated oven to 325 degrees

Cover the ham with foil and put about a cup of water in the bottom of the pan

Cooked ours  for 2 1/2 hours adding more water as needed or coke if you choose.      Figure 15/20 minutes per pound

Glaze

1 cup of brown sugar

1 cup of bourbon

Honey to sweeten it,  just a little at a time to take the edge off the bourbon

Simmer for 20 minutes then let cool [be careful the bourbon may flare up]

Remove foil and brush with glaze every 5 to 10 minutes for another half hour

Let cool and carve – enjoy

If you use this recipe let me know if you liked it and how it turned out?
